Several months ago, I half-jokingly went around telling people I was going to write-in the name of Dave Ramsey for President during the 2012 elections. I even thought about printing my own T-shirt saying “Dave for President”. (Wow — I’m not alone. There are even a couple of Dave for President pages on Facebook.) But seriously, I’ve heard Dave say live and in-person that he wouldn’t accept the job even if a write-in campaign worked. So I have to go elsewhere. (Actually I agree with him. I think he’s making the biggest splash right where he is.)
As I look at the important issues facing our nation right now, without a doubt it’s the economy. Our nation’s debt load is at unprecedented levels. Decade after decade of irresponsible fiscal policy has brought our nation the most significant challenge to its role as world leader and economic superpower that it has faced in a very long time. Stocks are up, then down, then up, then down again. Hyperinflation and a double-dip recession are knocking at our door. The Housing market and many other industries are limping along.
Americans are frustrated and desperate. The Tea Party of the Right sprang up in the middle of this mess, calling our nation back to fiscal responsibility. Now the Tea Party of the Left, a.k.a. Occupy Wall Street, is taking its turn. Who was it? Someone in the media was saying a couple months ago that America was on the verge of a revolution. I shudder to think what that would mean if it happened. But that does seem to be a distinct possibility.
I wrote earlier about The Problem. It’s taxes. Well, actually it’s how we Americans deal with money. But taxes are the best representation of this.
After looking at all of the Republican candidates, and all (the one) Democratic candidates, I think the choice is clear. Mitt Romney is head and shoulders above all the rest when it comes to the things that matter for turning the economy right-side up again:
- Fiscally conservative ideals
- Prior experience in government, but not a career politician either
- Working successfully with legislators on both sides of the aisle
- Extensive experience in the private sector, both preserving and creating jobs
- Turning around sinking businesses, a massive public event like the Olympics, and even a whole state government.
And so, Life Apprentice officially announces its endorsement of Mitt Romney for the next President of the United States. Unsure about him? Read for yourself. Here’s a summary that says my reasons more eloquently than I could. And here’s his issues page on his official website. It’s beautiful.
